Dear Mayor:I was completely disgusted and outrgaged to learn of the "Wild Boar and Dog Fight" scheduled to take place at Cikidang Hunting Resort. I hope that you will prove that Indonesia is a compassi...onate place and cancel the fight immediately.As you may know, during the planned fight, a boar and dog will be forced to rip each other to shreds in a fight to the death—all for the distorted "amusement" of spectators. The surviving animal is often seriously injured, suffering broken bones and crushed cartilage. The animal usually does not receive immediate veterinary attention, even when the injuries are severe. Many animals suffer and die hours or days after a fight from blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection. Indonesians also suffer the ill consequences of this "traditional" event. Dogs trained for fighting are highly aggressive and are known to attack people for no reason. Impressionable youths who view such cruel fights can grow up with a greater acceptance of violence. I will be urging my family and friends not to visit Indonesia until this bloodthirsty event is put down for good.
